Everyone seemed to think he should be bitter. That he should feel “replaced”. That he should be insulted by the depth of their relationship after such a short time. No one seemed to understand that he felt exactly the opposite. Though they had found each other, he felt as though he was the lucky one. Because he was able to see her fall in love and find someone who was so deserving of her love and brought out a side of her he had never seen.
Friends was much too simple a word to describe the relationship they built for nearly two thirds of their lives. It was beyond just a friendship. It was a level of understanding, a love for one another, a relationship built through sharing such strong and similar goals, values, and passion. Through it all, it was as though they became one person. One mind and heart and being. They lived so long as one. And as one, they reached their ultimate goal. Then everything changed.
